Children require healthy meals to learn. New Glarus School District offers healthy meals every school day. This year breakfast costs $1.45. Your family and/or children may qualify for free or reduced price ($0.30) breakfasts. This year lunch costs will be $2.45 for Elementary and $2.70 or $3.35 for Middle and High School. Your family and/or children may qualify for free or reduced price ($.40) lunches. Elementary students may also qualify for free milk under the Special Milk Program or the Wisconsin School Day Milk Program. Who can get free or reduced price meals or milk?
Children in households getting Food Stamps or W-2 and most foster children can get free meals regardless of your income. Also, if your household income is within the limits on the Federal Income Chart, your children can get free or reduced price meals or free milk.
I get WIC. Can my children get free meals?
Children in households participating in WIC may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Please fill out an application.
Should I fill out an application if I got a letter this school year saying my children are approved for free or reduced price meals?
Do not fill out an application for children who have already received approval for free or reduced price meals for this school year. Call the school if you have questions.
Will the information I give be checked?
Yes, we may ask you to provide written proof of the information you provide.
What if I stop getting Food Stamps or W-2?
If your children qualify because you listed a Food Stamp or W-2 case number, you must tell the school when you no longer get food stamps or W-2.
What if my household size or income changes?
If your children qualify for free or reduced price meals based on your income, you must tell us if your household size goes down or if your income goes up by more than $50 per month ($600 per year). Call us at (608) 527-2410 ext. 4109. You do not have to fill out another application.
If I don’t qualify now, may I apply again later?
Yes. You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, income goes down, or if you start getting Food Stamps or W-2. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced price meals during the time you are unemployed.
How will the information I provide be kept?
Information you provide about your household income or public assistance will be protected as private data. Your child’s approval for free or reduced-price meals is also private data. Please refer to the information provided in the application for details about data privacy.
What if I disagree with the school’s decision about my application?
